The Radiology Department provides advanced imaging services to the patients and clinicians within the hospital. A service is offered to GPs in the catchment area, and we also offer tertiary care to hospitals within and beyond the Ireland East Hospital Group.
The Mater Hospital Radiology walk-in X-ray service is closed until further notice.
As we are trying to safely manage the number of people in the hospital at this time, please do not arrive to the Radiology reception with a referral letter unless you have been given an appointment date and time. We hope to resume normal service as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
Referrals will be accepted by email, post and fax. Urgent referrals will be scheduled as soon as possible.
Our radiology service is led by highly qualified radiologists with dedicated fellowship training from world-leading medical centres. The multidisciplinary team includes radiologists and radiographers, and nursing, physics, administration and support staff.
We are actively involved in ongoing clinical research and training to ensure the best possible service is provided to all who access our service. The introduction of new technologies and equipment is always done with a patient focus very much to the fore.
In 2015, the team completed 192,000 radiology procedures. Our range of services include emergency, elective and urgent care for all areas of the hospital, including cancer, cardiovascular, spinal trauma and stroke.

All Mater Hospital consultants can order your examination electronically.
Letters from GPs can be faxed, posted, emailed or dropped into main radiology reception on Level 2 of the Whitty Wing.
Once we have received your letter of referral, it will be reviewed by a clinical specialist radiographer and you will be given an appointment date. Our administration staff will post out a letter outlining the date and time of your appointment and any preparation that is required for examination.
If you wish to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please contact us by phone, email or fax.
Please let us know if you cannot attend your appointment, so we can give the appointment to another patient on our waiting list.
