We offer a multi-disciplinary service – our team includes a diabetes nurse and an orthotist, as well as specialists from the Mater Hospital’s endocrinology, vascular, infectious diseases, orthopaedics and renal services.
We provide treatment for foot ulcers and for Charcot neuropathy. We can also refer you to our orthotist for specialist footwear and orthotics.
We have one fulltime and one part-time senior podiatrist. They provide both inpatient and outpatient services, including several joint clinics with other specialties. Our service is based on the HSE's National Model of Care for the Diabetic Foot (2011).
If you are referred to our podiatry service for an active foot ulcer or Charcot neuropathy, you will be offered an appointment within 24 hours, subject to availability.
Routine services, including nail care (chiropody), aren’t offered in the Mater Hospital. Please contact your local health centre about the chiropody card scheme.
All referrals should be made in writing on the HSE’s national model referral form. This form can be sent to us either by post or fax.
Please call on the above number to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If you don’t attend or fail to cancel/reschedule your appointment, we may not be able to offer you another one.
Please bring a list of your medications and your diabetes metre and diary (if applicable) to your first appointment.
