The pain medicine service runs outpatient clinics where patients visit a member of the pain medicine team. Patients also attend for pain treatment and services run by other specialties, such as physiotherapy and psychology.
This is a very busy service and there is generally a waiting time for appointments. We will contact you by letter with the earliest appointment time available. Please contact us to let us know if are attending or if you wish to cancel or reschedule the appointment offered.
On the day of your appointment, please arrive no more than ten minutes ahead of time, as the waiting room has limited seating available. You will be seen by the pain medicine team who will talk to you about whether further treatment is required. They will also notify your GP.
If the team recommends that you have a pain intervention procedure, you will be placed on the procedure waiting list. We will contact you by letter with the earliest appointment time available. Following your discharge home, you will receive a call from the nursing team within a month to see how effective the procedure was.
Your GP or another consultant will refer you for a consultation with a member of the pain medicine team. The pain medicine team may then decide to refer you on for a pain procedure.
