Dermatologists diagnose and treat all kinds of skin disorders and problems, including skin cancers, psoriasis, eczema, acne and rosacea. We also treat skin conditions that arise from other diseases.

We are the National Photobiology Centre for Ireland. We diagnose and treat people who have UV-associated skin disorders (photosensitivity).

As well as this, we run patient education classes and have a newly-introduced psychology service.
Our team consists of consultant dermatologists, junior doctors training in dermatology and dermatology nurse specialists.
The department provides undergraduate and postgraduate education and is involved in clinical research. We are currently the lead centre in a research study for a pan-European photopatch test project.

You need to have a referral letter to attend the Dermatology Department. Patients are referred by their GP or by consultants in other disciplines, both from within the Mater Hospital and externally.
Please turn up on time for your appointment. If you can’t attend for any reason, contact us as soon as possible to let us know. This will allow us to give the appointment to another patient.
